shocks pulling through

the previos owner had put spacers in to make the rear end not sag down. as a result where the shock mounts to the trailing arm it busted through. meaning a big f**king hole. ,so the trailing arm has to be replaced. also, did you think of maybe pulling the coil springs and having them tempered? that would cause them to have more strength.

One item I have not seen mentioned lately is that the shocks are the downward travel limit devices on the wagons...
So if a shock with not enough travel or not strong enough to hold the weight were used it would surely ' pull through' or break or something.....
Lucky, have you seen my FSM postings on the spring charts ?
Taking them to a local spring shop and having them pulled back to original ( or a little longer ) length and then quenched and then tempered is a perfectly legit method of restoring your springs.

Yes i saw all of those charts!! I love stuf like that, it explains things much better. I have saved a screen shot of them. I can not find a "spring shop" in the yellow pages. should i just call around to different machin shops?

I don't know how large a town you live in... but a good sized town will usually have an actual ' spring ' shop... cities usually do a lot of spring reworking because it is much less expensive than new springs... I am speaking of truck springs with regard to municipalities....
The local machinists may know of a spring shop but this is a very specialized service.... requiring big accurate ovens .... and a little practice....
