The above link is a new file. This is my 350SD within the last 100 miles. At idle. With 3 significant holes/fissures I've counted thusfar, at the top of piston #1. Each originating from against the cylinder wall.

The one above this text here, is an older one with a higher quality picture, and starts from around 15 mph and ends near 115 mph. Also of a 350. But a 350SDL.

Might as well post them here.

A short about the efficiency and effects bio diesel offers to the energy scenario. Deproduction produced this insightful film to highlight alternative fuel possiblities in America

http://www.archive.org/details/diesel_story
Traces the development of the diesel from the Otto 'SILENT' gas engine of 1877, through Rudolph Diesel's engine, to the machines that now drive ships, trains, tractors, trucks and cars.

"This rather dry film, sponsored by Shell Oil, tells the story of the development of the diesel engine. Lots of engines are shown, and they way that they work is described in detail. If you’ve ever wondered just what “fuel injection” is, then this is your movie. The dry scenes of internal combustion are broken up in the middle of the film by footage from a German movie about the life of Rudolf Diesel––we get to see the dramatic moment when the engine finally works! Then it’s back to more boring mechanical diagrams. Still, this could have been a lot more tedious than it is, if only by being longer. And the opening and closing credits are wonderfully designed, adding to the interest of the film. Grease monkeys should enjoy this, others will find it to be a 3-star film if ever there was one."

The first 1/2 of the video is with the engine semi-warm. I then lowered it to a "normal" idle speed of 800rpm. A revv, then my usual idle speed of ~950rpm.

The video is up now. I'm uploading a shot of a water injection nozzle right now.

Crap man, that thing sounds rough! Not that mine is all that smooth, actually, but I would want to do some adjustment if I were you. Or maybe you have allready done some adjustment. I hear that seeking performance at high RPM sometimes leads to a really rough engine at low RPM.

Your draft tube sure has a starring role in that movie. I'd think you'd get pulled over for having that much smoke coming out from under your engine. But that is just me. Some guys like it loud and smokey. Thanks for putting the movie up. I'll have to find a camera somewhere to do mine.

That's not my draft tube, thats exhaust smoke. The exhaust was broken off at the flextube on the downpipe.

I don't know what it can be. The injectors are less than a year old, cam/injection timing is dead on, valve lash is perfect, turbo seals are good, prechambers are carbon free, piston crowns are undamaged (Viewed through bore-scope), intake is crud/EGR-free, blow-by is so-so, oil pressure is great, and cold compression is 340-385 on all 5 (375-420 when at 82*c).

I have to keep it between 850 and 1000rpm for a good idle (Partly due to the light 240D flywheel). Even when it's warm it will eventually start to smoke and randomly misfire if left at idle for long. B20 helps, but does not cure it.

It runs like a crazy under power, it's just that embarrassing idle.

That 350SD has a dead cylinder, at least thats what it sounds and looks like.

That 617 sounds pretty bad at idle. Strange seems like you have covered almost everything. Do delivery valves seals by any chance?

Also the fact that the exhuast has a pretty major leak will affect how it sounds.

The #1 delivery valve was replaced shortly after I got the 300TD. Humm, it was only about $15 for a new one. Couldn't hurt to do the other 4....

That IP must be different then the 603's that I am used to. On my engine delivery valve seals are nothing but an O ring, and copper crush washer. The parts cost a few bucks at most.

Rough idle is often a symtom of leaking seals, sometimes fuel is visable at the top of the IP.

I would bet that this is an IP issue, you have gone over everything else.

Haha...that's really good to know. I am just laughing at myself for thinking all that smoke was your blowby. I think I read in some other post that you have a draft tube, but even I should know that that couldn't be blowby alone. Fixing that hole wouldn't hurt how it sounds. Sounds like you have everything else covered.
