My owner's manual puts my tank at 20.3 gallons (77 litres), including a 3.3 gallon (12.5 L) reserve. Like w/ the 201, I think the gassers got the bigger tank.

1000 miles is the norm, even with my style/type of driving. The Mrs. gets 1K with ease. Chris Bell, the 1400K record holder, sure drove like granny to accomplish this feat, to be sure.

Still on the hunt, might make an offer today. If and when we get one it`ll be difficult to choose it to take on long trips with it`s relative short range compared to out other two cars.

The 1995 E300D (W124) has a 24 gallon tank (actually 90 liters to be correct) and a well tuned car can make 800 miles on a tank fairly easily.

My first E300D would do that. My second, however, does not get the same mileage, for reasons I have not yet figured out! Instead of 34 - 35 mpg I get 30 - 31. Injectors perhaps?

The technical data I posted was for 86&87 model years only. So use it as reference as is appropriate.

Did the conversion to mpg. They are as follows for a 86 & 87 124 diesel. No mention made of any difference between sedan or wagon.

At 55.9mph, 30.7mpg
At 74.6mph, 31.73mpg

Interesting that the car gets better at higher speed.

I suppose if one has a properly tuned and running 86or87 124 diesel, you can go 602 miles at 74.6mph before you would run dry. That is 8 hours of driving.

Unfortunantly, I have never gotten higher that 26mpg. Must be the tired engine I have. Will swap it out in february with the used one I bought. Then I will do the test.

Henry
