Water Pump R/R 1984 126 300SD
I have a small leak from what appears to be the water pump. I want to change this out myself. I have average skills, this one looks pretty straight forward but want to see if there are any "gottchas" before I start

It is as easy as it looks. Just don't get carried away and overtighten any of the fasteners or they will break/strip.

just make sure the fans bolt heads don't get rounded off with a cheap wrench. if there is room for a box end wrench, use a 6 point-no 12 points. make sure it's a good, tight fit. get your hands on a snap on flank drive 10mm if you can. those teeth in the open end does wonders. $30 or so off the truck. good luck, chuck.

I ground down a box wrench to fit on the fan bolts to avoid rounding them off. You may be able to find a very thin box wrench that fits without having the end ground down at all. I wouldn't use an open end wrench on them.
