Shocks - Rebound?
When driving my 300SD and I come across road conditions that compresses the shock it feels fine. When I come across a road condition the causes the wheel to drop fairly quickly and the shock to extend (like coming over a quick crest) I hear a thump which I assume is the shock fully extending.
Maybe extending to quick and little rebound? I don't see leaks and don't know how many miles are on the current shocks and have no idea how to check gas charged shocks to see if they are up to snuff. It feels smooth otherwise. Any ideas? Thanks Don |
I'd guess, if the ride is OK otherwise, what you are hearing is the tire hitting the far side of the hole -- MB valves the shocks so that the wheels move up easily, but drop fairly slowly. This keeps the tire in contact with the road better, and you don't get the pitching and crashing you get with American shocks -- valved exactly opposite to "control body roll". Roll is controlled by sway bars, not stiff shocks, but don't try to tell Detriot that.
