Refueling mishap
 

So, I had my first comic (in hindsight) mishap today. Stopped at some rinky dink little full serve station on the way to a meeting. Apparently the attendant, in his infinite wisdom, disregarded the fact that I said "fill it with diesel." A few miles later, I start pinging, then rough running, then dead. Turns out he put gasoline in. Had to drain the entire tank.

That was my fun afternoon.

BTW, anyone know if it will be ok to use the drained gas that has probably 2% diesel in it in a gasser (specifically a 1993 Honda Accord)?

Did they drain the tank or pay to have it done?

Yep, should be fine to use that gas.

DO NOT use that diesel contaminated gasoline in a car with a catalytic converter.

In Oregon, you can't pump your own gas (or diesel).

That's so retarded. I wouldn't want to live in Oregon.

A small amount of kerosene/diesel mixed with gasoline won't hurt a gasoline engine, or even a catalytic converter. 2% diesel in a 25 gallon tank is only 32 ounces.

i drained it myself, the cheap way, siphoned it. Would've drained the whole thing but it's been too damn cold. there could'n't have been more than 1/2 gal of gas left in it when i refueled diesel.

That's just throwing away your money. It was their mistake, they NEED to atleast cover the cost for a tank of fuel. If the attendant is do dumb (or lazy) that he/she/ dosen't even listen to the coustomers specific request, the station manager needs to know so it can be corrected before he/she causes MORE damage.

You should, really NEED, to call them (Telling them face to face is better) and tell them what happened.

Jersey's full service too. The civilized way to refuel.

How to siphon without choking on fuel:

1. find a suitable wad of cotton cloth and a piece of wire. attach the cotton rag to the wire and shove it up your siphon hose. lube with oil to create a air seal

2. Place the hose in the tank.

3. Quickly yank the rag out of the hose. The vacuum created by the removal of the rag creates the suction and voila, a siphon.

I Prefer this method, taught to me by a pro fuel thief. The guy had a beautiful setup with a 12 gauge cleaning plug on a wire and could start a siphon in under 5 seconds.

I was under the assumption that the only thing you were prohibited from pumping was gasoline due to its highly volatile nature. I have heard that you can pump your own diesel in Jersey, and I would assume that Oregon is the same way. What do the truckers do? I doubt they have attendants to fill their trucks for them.

You'd be surprised. Go into a 7-11, or some other convenience store in Oregon, and there's a dozen or so of those gas pumping dirtbags at any given time. They don't do squat, just pump gas. I seem to recall their truck stops being the same way. A real pain in the backside. Oregon's a pretty decent state overall, but that's just beyond stupid.

I have a cousin who's a senior Army NCO at Fort Lewis, Washington. He travels around the west coast and Pacific Northwest training nasty guardsmen and reservists. Going through Oregon has gotten to be such a pain, he won't leave his government car while fueling (morons will put premium unleaded in the tank and charge the government accordingly; he gets his butt eaten for that).

What is the state afraid of? Cell phones igniting the gas fumes :rolleyes:

If the DMV would just have people watch the same video as the pimple popers at the stations, they would not need to stand around! Imagine that, one of them getting a job that reqires an IQ!
