Transmission Slipping W124

This is an old topic, but a dig into the archives hasn't helped solve my problem.

My tranny suddenly started to slip very badly off the line. I mean the engine really races before it suddenly engages with a slam. It seems worse if I start out in D. It's like there's no transmission at all.

Prior to the major slippage, I would only have a slight flare between 2nd and 3rd at light throttle.

I've replaced the clutch plates once (or paid for their replacement), as a preventative measure. I hope this will be an easy and cheap fix -- though I'm quite worried.

Any suggestions?
