lubro or redline quick question

in reading the posts about the two products i have to ask.

it seems like the lubromoly diesel purge can be directly fed into the fuel line but the redline cannot?

i can't find the lubro locally but the redline is available.

Check ebay, there is usually a ton of that kind of stuff on there and I think the prices are usually ok on it. Good luck.

Jen, you'll probably have to order the Diesel Purge, although I know you're in a hurry to get to it. I've seen it for sale at the local MB dealership, so you might want to try your dealer in a pinch.

I've never tried the Redline at full strength, although it is 65% diesel fuel. Maybe call Redline and ask them.

Jen,
You can also use BioDiesel. I have taken apart motors that have used it and it cleans them up very well, including the injectors, piston crowns, valves, etc. If you can get it, try to add about 5 gallons to your tank and enjoy the smooth running that you'll get in addition to the cleansing.
Have fun,

Performance Products sells Diesel Purge, but they also want $10.00 per can. You might want to check your area for a forgein auto parts store, that's where I find my diesel purge, and I now most areas with a decent sized population will have one or two...

I'll second the motion for a tank or top-off of BD. Does as well or better than the additives (thought Lubro Moly is one of the best of the additives) and will cost pennies to accomplish it (only a bit more $'s than petro diesel.)

i just used the diesel purge straight through the fuel line out of a jar, and it worked great, engine runs alot quieter and smoother.

but be aware, the can says it takes 15 minutes to run out, mine took over half an hour! so besure youre comfortable when youre holding those hoses in that jar before you start.

lubro or redline

Has anyone tried mixing their own batch of off the shelf cleaner, i.e. maybe a particular ratio of some Techron with some diesel or similar mixture. Not worth it ,pump damage?

So how does one find out where to get Bio-Diesel? I have not come across it, although I know if it for boats.

My wife would be thrilled if I used some of this.

Am on my way out to pick up an injector tester in Greeley, but I'll get back later today with local BD sellers in MD. Maybe PM where the closest towns are to you.

It's best to set up everything so you don't have to hold anything, just the throttle pedal. You're supposed to run the engine at various RPM. This will also use up the product a lot quicker.

I notice my cars always run a lot quieter on Diesel Purge, but shortly afterward run louder and a bit rougher again. That really shows how inferior regular diesel fuel is.

I guess you could just run straight diesel purge all the time. Might get a little pricy though. :p

Jen:

Those two products (Diesel Purge and Redline Diesel Fuel Catalyst) are not intended to be interchangeable. I would use Diesel Purge (straight, per the instructions) for a quick cleanup of the injectors and then regularly add a few ounces of Redline at each fill up. I have found that Redline does a great job of preventing algae and keeping injectors clean.

my $.02,
Wes
