There seems to be a good deal of "testing" related posts; dyno, labs, dropping from rooftops, you know, everyday stuff. Put all the testing under one heading.

The sub catagories look good. I'm still fairly new at this, but I believe I could put down a few pretty common insights and thoughts for a couple of them. I have the virtue of haveing started green on Mercedes pretty recently, so a lot of this is pretty fresh to me still. I'd rather someone experienced take my notes and edit/correct and stick it together, but either way I'd be willing to give it a shot.

It would not be hard to make these into a .pdf for download, however/if they turn out.

oh i forgot about those DIY pages.

too bad we didnt keep documenting stuff. there would be a DIY for engine swap, tranny conversion, suspension parts and god knows what else from me....

but i guess its not too late to start again. my interest in documenting as opposed to just getting it done waivers with the temperature in which im working....

hope this takes off again.

Well.... those of us in the Etch-a-Sketch generation (me) would be very happy with a list of links to the good stuff, separated by type (W115, W123, etc.), and complete with directions for how to save the postings on our own computer. The outside web sites seem to come and go, so my vote is to be able to save the stuff that has already been written down. One issue is deciding which advice is the good stuff, which is why I really do like the search: I can read and read and read and read and then decide for myself. I think another issue is time, but I'm not good enough at this internet stuff to know for sure. A deciding issue is with the folks that provide this site. It must cost them money to have all the old and valuable postings available to us, so we need to do our part by buying parts. We really do have a good thing going in having the old postings available.

Anyone know how far back in years the posts on this forum are archived?

Talking Did somebody say DIY pages?

I'll have to look that over and ad a link to it on my page, also I believe another MBshoper is starting one but not so much for our diesels, it seems like he said it was www.fixmymercedes.com. I always save pages, I have a folder called VFAQ not mine. I go around and save (File-> Save As->Name it whatever you want to and place it where you won't lose it->click save. Perhaps start a folder like I did) all the stuff like that, all I can find.

If anyone has a page they'd like posted on the web but no place to host it I, as long as it isn't just insane in size I can host it and of course give credit to the person. As much as my MB has been aggrevating me lately I don't know how much longer I want to put up with it, but if I do sell it I'll try my best to keep it up. Worst case scenario is it'll be uploaded as a different subdomain. Anyway I'll try to make some time here eventually so I can at least make some more progress for my site. Maybe today I'll just make some more new pictures.

There is a way to build a FAQ that is basically a set of search strings. Very easy to do by a moderator and it can be updated easily every time new information comes onto the b-board.

For the reasons brought up in this thread as well as others I set up a FAQ on another board and it is very usefull. It takes moderator status to do it right though there is a work around way for a non moderator to do it. I have done the work around method as well.

Here is an example of a work around method I set up for another board.

BoostnBenz, you've got me half-way there, regarding saving stuff. Now what do I pick in the "Save as type" and "Encoding" boxes? Thanks in advance.

shouldn't it just be vacuum system, not locking system? There are other vacuum issues...

Great idea, because I use the search function all the time, and it is difficult, but I get more info that way. But sometimes there are specific things that are different by model, like today I just learned that the SD has an electric oil pressure gauge, so that oil drip is not from the oil gauge but probably from the vacuum shut off. ANyway, thatks to all for your abundant info, enthusiastic support, and general MB crazed-ness!

coachgeo's thing is exactly what I was thinking of, but my devil's advocate arguments are still there: who is going to take the time, who decides which is the good stuff, and how long is the stuff going to be available.

BoostnBenz: thanks. Now it's "search, read, and save."
