BoostnBenz: thanks. Now it's "search, read, and save."
1. Who's going to take the time? I volunteer to show the process and that is a start. There is nothing wrong with spreading out the work over several people. Anyone want an unpaid job? One person per topic or two? Again once some of the archived things are marked the hard part is over.

2. Who decides? Whom ever takes the job(s)! If your not willing to take part you got no room to biatch and moan. Who ever takes the job(s) I'm sure will be wise enough to take suggestions as well though.

3. How long is it available? The method I've used in the past would have things available as long as the B.Board exist (assuming their never is any failure of the B-board and/or that some blanket amount of material is never moved off the site for storage elsewhere. )

I ask this out of complete ignorance. Is there a way to incorporate a rating system? People on this forum that find these types of things are pretty loyal. If they find a FAQ with DIY instructions, they could rate or give feedback to how well it worked. Kind of like rating electronics and things that you can review before you buy.

I believe all threads have a thing to rate them, I've never tried it before though. But right under "Post Reply" is "select rating."

You can put a poll on a thread. Least I assume you can. Its a feature availalbe on most bulletin boards. So if the thoughts are to use a FAQ thread(s) system then the developers could have a poll for each FAQ topic. That means though the FAQ system ends up being lots of threads (one per topic) Noowwwww.. that many threads is a problem .

It is a problem cause the FAQ is of most value if it is STUCK to the top of the forum by the moderator. Now a smart moderator is not going to stick 100 different threads to the top of the forum; notice this forum has only two. That means the FAQ's need to be developed into one thread. I dont see how a valid poll could be made in that one thread about so many topics. See the FAQ example link I posted above.

So for that and other reasons I got to agree with BBenz. It easier to just encourage folk to leave a message on the board about suggestions. Besides IMHO you can get more info from message and dialog on a BBoard than you can get analyzing a poll's results.

all in all though, out of two threads where an FAQ is discussed we have not heard from any moderators so maybe they are not interested in the idea?

should I close this thread?

Hello Everyone
Does anyone have further constructive suggestions for diesel topic division?
If nobody has objections, I will copy this thread into a PM to the Moderators, with your suggestions and credit for them.
Should I close this thread or just add a note to mark when suggestions are sent to Moderators?
Thank you for your input!

Maybe I'm misunderstanding you but....

In my honest opinion I think that it'd be silly to break a big category into 16 sub-categories. Maybe a FAQ could be a good idea to cover some general stuff but I just can't see making 16 subcategories, that would be very annoying going to each one to see what is new. Creating a useful FAQ would probably take a considerable amount of effort and like Coachgeo said it should be spread among many people to create it.

Division of the diesel discussion area would not be that good of an idea(I am a member to a few of those types of forums, and they are a mess), however a FAQ page would be an excellent idea...

I strongly agree. If you MUST divide the diesel discussion, the best way would be by engine type (Vintage, OM616-7, OM601-2-3, OM606. and CDI. And MABYE and additional oil section.)

Very interesting.

Hello Everyone
Very interesting points.
I will leave this alone for the moment.
I do think an oil thread folder would be a good idea.
The topic seems to get rather hot and personal.
