A big ole FAQ would help. All these cars have the same problems, the same solutions, and it's going to go on forever. Yelling at people to search isnt much of an answer(though it's a good solution). Some people just don't think that way, does not make them bad or stupid, just differently oriented. I searched and read for months before I ever registered, it gets old haveing fifteen browser windows open trying to corilate information between many different posts. There has to be a better way.

Good idea but who is going to put together a FAQ page. We should have a warning about oil and 350 threads.

FAQs are great. If you want to see one successful VW TDI diesel model, check here:

Notice the multiple categories, as well as the numerous contributors. Very well organized.

You're right there, although it's been my experience that soemtimes, even if you have a fairly common problem, you may be experiencing different symptoms than someone else, which would make searching a difficutl task at best. I usually get frusturated with searching, which is why I tend to ask obnoxious questions.

You're also right that an FAQ would be great at least as a starting point. I would offer to take it on myself, except I don't think I have the time with school and whatnot, and I'm certainly nowhere near as well-qualified as others on this board...

At one time there were a few working on a diesel FAQ page. Contact 300SDLL, formerly known as TXBill, he might still have some of the stuff that was compiled.

Searching

Searching is useful, but very cumbersome and time consuming. I am sure that I am not alone in that I monitor this forums current discussions and learn a ton about issues that I am sure are "old hat" to you professionals, but very useful to the average Diesel owner. Things I would never have the urge to search for. And sure they are issues that have been discussed for years and there is a ton of information on this in the archives. I find it especially useful when one of you "old timers" gives a link to a past useful forum response.

But a forum is a forum. I have never seen or been part of one where the discussions do not cycle by season or when several new "owners" join in and start asking HOW DO I???

Anyway, thank to all of you regulars for the great advice. While I do not do as much DIY as I would like, it is great to have knowledge and information to pass on to my mechanic.

I also love the idea of sub-topics.

Ditto Alan

The first page of the Diesel Discussion is great because it brings up food for thought as well as most recent.
