As in, car shut off, lock completly, wait a few seconds, then unlock, that counts as 1 cycle.

I'm at 5 right now, about the best I'm going to get I think. The rest of the leaks are just wee little seeping things. Seems to hold steady over 24 hours though.

You may be able to find the pump from a 126 in the boneyard and retrofit for you model. Maybe this has already been discussed and discounted. Sounds like it may be a fix for the 240 and 300D's.

It seems like the most I've ever done were 5 and that last one barely made it through, however the system will hold enough vacuum for well over a week to cycle them as needed.

I only have two things wrong with my vacuum system, I could use a new IP bleeder valve, and a new center vent pod.

i too have a vac pump in the wheel well

In the winter, my locks will hold for maybe 2 days. In the summer it might hold for 4-5 days...

I've done this to my TD. :p
Got two pumps. The first for $20 from a 380SEL, turned out to be corroded and got fried out. Second I got for $5 from an 84'SD and mounted next to the steering shaft. It pumps for both the locks and ACC system, can go from 0" to 24" in one minute and last for about 5 cycles and 2 days.

I have two activation switches, one when I open the driver door and one when vacuum reaches 8".

It's very nice. The transmission seems to shift better with the higher vacuum since the engine dosen't have to pump for the locks.

One day I'll bug you for details of that setup. It seems like a Good Thing to me..


I also noticed with the door locks out of the vacuum loop, much more consistency on the transmisions part, probibly due to the excess of vacuum without the locks in play.

The setup is fairly simple. Two power wires, an extra door jam switch (How handy was that for MB to put TWO switch spots in the jam! ), custom low vacuum switch I had laying around (Forgot from where), and an extra one-way three-port vacuum valve. The hardest part is finding a good place to mount the pump, the SEL was pretty big with it's own low-vacuum switch but the SD is very small without built-in switch. I was going to mount it where the fuel tank lock was (The actuator had big leak that would drain the vacuum in 3 minutes) but I didn't feel like running power and switch wiring that far.

I can cycle my locks as many times as I damn well please!
