Sounds like you've discovered what many other people have found only through trial and (much) error. The connection on the brake booster line is not simply a "T". It is a "metered orifice" that must be a specific size in order to work correctly with the other parts of the vacuum control system.

Congratulations on getting it fixed. You might want to review the article at Continental Imports and do some fine tuning.

Man am I glad I looked here first, maybe there's hope after all for the 300TD, and I won't have to have the thing overhauled!

Anyone here know of someone in the San Diego area good with trannies or who would be willing to look into the vacuum situation as described by Brother Steve Brotherton?

I not expecting this to be the end all, but I'd like to check this option first before assuming the worst, if you know what I mean. I'd love to do it myself but condo living has it's limits.

TIA,

Dave Doyle

Never mind thank god, I had forgotten to check the fuel filter...man do I feel like a sap. It's my wife's car so I don't drive it much at all. Anyhow a quick change and all's back to normal.

My project car a 1984 300D, has a bad 3-4 flair with the vacuum line off. I changed the fluid and added some TransX, but have not been able to drive it much because of a bad axle boot. The question I have is does the modulator key adjustment effect the line pressure if the line is off as well?

Reverse seems to be quicker engaging since adding the TransX.

The car has set up for a long time and the fluid had a slight and I mean just a slight burned smell. Nothing in the pan when I changed the filter and fluid.

What do you guys think?

You don't need to drive it for the Trans-X to work...
You need to sit in the driveway (outdoors with the front of the car pointed into the wind ) with the engine on.... and ' run' it through the gears.... just go from each gear shift setting to the next after about a minute in each... use park and reverse also... might put it on high idle.... and turn on the radio... but time how long you do it... and the number of gears you do..... 30 -45 minutes of that should show whether or not the Trans-X is going to help .... sense you are not able to get out and drive it now....

ROTFLMAO. Those things apparently make the Trans-X work better. Listen to Greg, he is the voice of experience.

OK,OK,,, I said that because it is boring... and someone posted once that they did this like 10 minutes.... and gave up on the Trans-X...... it just takes longer than that to find out if it is going to help... and I don't want someone sitting there breathing the exhaust for that long for no good reason.... but my main purpose posting on this board is to keep you ( Rick ) entertained.. so I feel I am a successful poster....

Well I did go through the gears and back to reverse. Even drove it a couple miles. It does seem to go into reverse quicker. If after giving it some time to do it work and if I still have the 3-4 flair is there any hope short of a rebuild?
