Broke sunroof lift on 87 300d
I started working on the sunroof. The left side rear lift is broken and jams to prevent the roof from sliding off. Is there any way to remove the roof panel from the slide mechanisms (did not remove the slide cover before working on the roof) to lift the panel out and gain access to the slide mechanisms?
Also, is it better to buy new mechanisms or take a chance with used? Thanks, Lee |

Are you talking about the sunroof liner? On my 1988 190e, I had the same problem and fixed it myself. I removed the sunroof liner by opening the roof about 1/2 way. Then at the front, between the liner and the actual metal part of the sunroof, there are four clips. With a screwdriver, I just popped down on the clips between the liner and the metal. From there, pulling upwards and out-forward, I pulled out the liner and then had access to the lifts and so forth.
BTW, I do not recall or remember but if you pull out the lifts and change them, you may have to adjust your sunroof which is a PIA. One of my lifts was broken so I just took it out. The sunroof still pops up but the liner hangs on one side since no lift but, I do not use the pop up feature for the moment, since the part is not available where I live and just use the sunroof either fully opened or closed. Iggy.
