How do you jump a glow-plug relay? want to start motor out of car while on a crate!

Hello,
Anyone know how to jump a glow-plug relay? I am trying to start the motor I just got while it's on a crate out of the car. I have the glow harness fully intact including the relay and have connected a thick positive power cable to the relay and have tried jumping the other 4 prongs under the cover on the relay itself. Anyone have any ideas as this is my last step in getting it running on the crate.
Thanks so much, please help ASAP if possible.
Thanks, Adam

Don't know about glow plugs but...

You'd better bolt that engine down real good. I don't think a regular engine stand will hang onto a running diesel. And make sure the engine shut-off is working.

I dont use a relay on 2 of my cars. I go from the strip fuse to a solenoid, to the battery, operated by a switch. In your case just go directly to the battery to heat up the plugs, easy. I like the idea of starting the engine before instillation, but have never done it. That sure would have been handy when I didnt put in the oil gallery plugs on a 616 I did a while back. Keep us posted.

Yeehaaaa! got her running and she is running very well!
Thanks for the advice as well, as I ensured the shut-off was working and she was strapped down well. I created a closed loop cooling just as the car uses before it gets warmed up and put a can of biodiesel on the floor as it's fuel supply. Once I jumped the glow plugs as you suggested, it fired right up without delay!
Man, I'm excited now - but I just wish I had something to put it in now that I got my 85 300d back together after the valve job and running the way it should. Hopefully a 300d or sd will become available with a great body and bad motor...
Thanks again for the help!!
Adam
