Delay between turning headlight switch on and headlights turning on in 84 300D

It seems like it might be cold dependent...when I turn the headlight switch on, the parking lights come on instantly and the headlights come on after a while. It seems like in warmer temps (20*F) there is a 30 second delay, and at -8*F there was a five minute delay. Experience with this issue? Ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Chuck

Can you direct me to the headlight relay location? I couldn't find it in the online manual or in the search...

in chilton's i dont see a relay. couldnt tell you
what it would be, but might guess a short the
closes up when it warms up or dries up? spin

I think there are relays... THere should be a square plastic box on the driver's side fender, between the glow plug box and the brake booster. It is mounted straight on the fender, so its the one big black square youll see.

Inside of mine there are two hella relays. My car had sealed beams, so I dont think it was some sort of upgrade; I think it is the headlight relays, because hella relays are typically used for lighting applications (bosch relays for the other stuff).

Chuck

The headlights in my "79" do the same thing, worse when the weather is cold. I ran "over wattage" bulbs for about 1/2 yr in my 7"euro headlights when I first got the car. Kinda figured that partially toasted something. I am thinking maybe the headlight switch. I am hopping someone will shed some light on this problem as well. (pun intended)
