.....oil, the next problem

my engine has oil everywhere. i was told that if i by a degreaser then spray the engine down, the oil would go away. i've never done this to any car i've owned. and being that this is my FIRST benz i want to take EXTRA special care. should i let a professional clean my engine or is this something i can do without harming the car? by the way i'm p.o.o.r betta yet PO, so anything i can do myself to save dollars i'm willing to try.

I prefer to have the engine steam cleaned, which any MB dealership is equipped to do. I don't like the idea of spraying chemicals and water all over an engine that is 19 years old. Just my humble opinion.

I have steam cleaned (power washed) too many old cars that I can't remember. It is especially not too bad on our old diesels as they are less reliant on electricals to run. I would steam clean it. o a search, there has been much written about this. I think you'll be happy that you did.
Thanks, Adam

You should never spray cold water on a hot IP. Many sensitive parts in there could be damaged. Just clean it when the car is cold. Not hard to keep it up at all.
I keep some various degreasers in a one gallon garden sprayer and spray the oily parts down ever so often on a Saturday morning and then rinse it off with a garden hose. That keeps the engine clean, which makes it much easier to work on. Some like to clean it even more than that, I would do so if I had more time. I was given a very small steamer, about a two cup capacity, this year and have found it usefull with getting the real hard gunk cleaned away. But for the most part just regular cleanup does well.

I just cleaned mine, I sprayed Gunk on it, than hosed it down. The engine was cold, the Gunk seemed to do a good job.

It's not an exact science, just spray it down, let the cleaner sit for a couple of minutes than hose it off. When your done hoseing it off, take it for a ride or start it to dry it off. Just make sure the engine is cold before you clean it.
