Tester:

First didn't you use to have a picture of a guy with a hard hat?
Now for the real question. On you bootle jack tester I see there is no valve below the gauge. So how do you set the pressure set? Or do you just let it blow thru?
You must also be the guy in in southern cal. that is going to all the pick part and getting the injectors.

Thanks for the answer, I truly did not know the details. Your answer was easy to understand.

"P.S. All of us are coming over to your house to borrow your coil spring compressor"
Use my compressor-- bring it on!!!!
So how many guests should I plan for??????
But no California wines in this house. I prefer Spatelese, a good German wine.
And yes it is your God given right to pray to the tool Gods.
I was just praying in the "church" this afternoon. Actually cleaning up the "church". So many tools. So little storage area!

One other question. Is it normal to buy an injector then take it to a shop for balancing? I do understand your thought process about balencing. Or do the majority of the people just open the box and install the rebuilt unit?

Thanks guys
Dave

One more question.

jbaj007
~$25. Ok now I may want one of these. I love to build tools.

So the big question is still. Where do you get the shimms to adjust the injector. If I build a tester then I'll need the shimms. And an unltrasonic cleaner and plating unit and etc.etc.

So where do you get shimms?

Dave

The majority of the people just open the box and install and 99% of the time, it's better than what they had (they're still calibrated to MB specs.)

This kind of thing is just for picky bast**ds like me.

Shims can be had from the parts houses (bought some 1.85's from Rusty last week, they shipped to wrong zip code so he's 2nd day'ing them to me), but the most economical is to buy injectors and canabalize them for all the parts.

Shim sits above the spring inside the body.

Thumbs up Tester:

In the DFW area go over to Grand Praire and hit the yards. Ask them what they want for injectors first.
Out here when you can find them they are $5 or $6 each. Cheaper than most place charge for core's.
I bet J got the jack at Harbur Freight.
Can't find an injector in Southern Calif. J get's there first.
German wine, come on brother let's keep some jobs in the USA we do a good job on the Vino. But I guess if you buying the Rine wine will have to do.

Dave,
I ended up getting some shims from the dealer. I had collected a few from previous injector diassemblies. All the Worldpac online vendors list them as out of stock for the last couple months. Maybe I should call Phil and ask, though. The 1.80, 1.85, 1.90, 1.95 mm. are the ones I commonly use.

Charlie,
Honest. I haven't been to the pic'n'pulls. I would love to find some, though. If you want an accomplice next time you go, I'd be up for assisting. Love Harbor freight for stuff like the jack, but it's a Craftsman sale item from OSH.

Injectors:

I just breaking your chops.
Great job on the tester. I will probably copy it.
What about a Valve for pressure like the other testers.
You have been a great help on the board. You mentioned a place in the Valley for a Injection Pump and I got one there. You also mentioned a tool for ball joints and I got one. Maybe we need a column from you on "improvised tools."
I do alright at pick your part. Just don't go on the weekend. Can't get into parking lot.
Thanks man.

Sorry Charlie! Please tell me of some good US wines that have the flavor of a spatelese.

"keep the jobs in the USA"

Now your talking to a bunch of Americans who spend there life savings on cars made in Germany. (except the M class folks) Who buy parts made in Germany or India or England to keep these German cars running.

Dave

Shims, must find shims, then build a tester, You guys really got me going now. Where am I going to put one more tool in my shop?????????

Hydraulic pump

Has anyone thought about using a hydraulic pump like this to set up an injector tester? You could also use it when that "deer in the headlights" colides with your car!

"Porta Power"

You could us this but why.
If you look at the Jack-Tester. He had to Modify it and is not using the Ram part, just the hydrolic cylinder to apply pressure and use must use, Kitchen oil,Diesel to check injector. Plus this is $90 when the jack he has was under $15.
But if you mint this as a joke OK. That one's on me.
As stated earlier "Rusty" has shims. They average $1.50 to $2.00 each. I looked at Fastline first and he didn't show them.

Some one makes a commercial version of what you are talking about. It is made by OTC or OCT I cannot remember that name exactly. They also make other models of injector nozzle testers. I saw one with the OTC logo on eabay about 1 year ago when I was bidding on used Diesel Nozzle Testers.
Also some time back in the 50s or early 60s the BUDA engine company offered a Diesel Nozzle tester made on a regular hydraulic jack body just like the homemade ones.
I did a quick ebay search; the name is OTC this is 1 of the nozzle testers they sell and I believe the company is connected with Kent Moore tools.http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/DIESEL-INJECTION-NOZZLE-TESTER-OTC-NOZL-RATER_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ43989QQihZ019QQitemZ290229691766QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW
