trap ox ...???
Just sitting here thinking about the teardown coming up. I am going to install a new manifold gasket and o-rings in the turbo soon. While I'm there I was thinking of making the trap ox less restrictive. (more power maybe?) I have never seen the inside of one. Don't even know how I would make it less restrictive other than **** can it and install straight pipe.
Any ideas???? Or should I leave it alone?

Your car still has a trap oxidizer? If you're talking about the catalytic device along the exhaust pipe, replace it with a test pipe. A reputable indy told me they don't have an infinite life anyway.

My bust , I was talking about the catalyst. What do you mean replace it with a test pipe? I thought the catalysts were wupposed to be a lifetime replacement?

Yes they were intended to be lifetime replacements but MB only warranted the replacements for only 12 months/unlimited mileage. You can take take that for what its worth. I've heard of some people fabricating a straight pipe instead of having the oxy cat and I have heard of other people just converting the entire intake/exhaust set up to a 49 states system. Personally I like the 49 states set up because it frees up a lot room under the hood and gives you an extra 5 hp over the CA set up. The straight pipe might do that also but I don't know for sure.
It's your car, it's your choice.

A reputable tech in my area says that a plugged up catalyst device is a cause of loss of performance in a 603. I don't know how to check it. Is this device in the engine bay in a 617? It's near the transmission in an SDL so I have no idea how removing it frees up space in the engine bay. Sixto 95 S420 87 300SDL |
