Hello everyone, thanks for all you guys that helped me diagnose and fix my transmission. It seems to be doing alot better now. I am now moving on to two oil leaks I have spotted. They are both on the passenger's side. My Oil pan is not leaking at all but I took pictures of two possible parts that are leaking oil. Can anyone help me identify the leaks and the names of the gasket I need to change for these?

It don't look like your oil return from the "cyclone separator" section of the air filter housing is properly connected to the line that returns it to the oil pan. Remove your air filter housing and inspect.

Keep cleaning and checking. Had a couple I was sure were leaks, but after a while turned out to be old oil goo that would heat up and dribble, get wiped off, then dribble again, but eventually disappeared.

The first one is the turbo. The cause is probably a leaking seal in the center section of the turbocharger. I'm not sure what the part number is of that flex joint. I'm not sure about the second leak.

If you look closely in the first photo you can see where the return pipe is supposed to be hooked to. My thought is that all the oil you are seeing is coming from that opening - even what you see on the expansion section pipe from the turbo. If that oil was coming from the turbo you would be seeing alot of smoke.

Right you are. Upon closer inspection, I do see where the pipe is supposed to be hooked to.

Ok guys I think got it! I see the opening were that return pipe is suppose to go now Wow...I think this one is going to be an easy one thanks to you guys!!! I'll keep you updated...

Pay attention to Engatwork, there is an O ring on a tube under the air cannister. That tube with that O ring is pushed into a long tube that drains the recaptured blowby oil from the 'cyclone separator' that is inside the air cannister.
Those two parts can be a source of oil leaks big time. Take the air cannister (air cleaner assembly)off the car. You should plan on replacing the O ring on the tube. Clean up all that oil and check the rubber mounts under the air cannister. Replace them if they are torn.
When you reassemble you will need to reach under the air can and guide the drain tube up into that tube. Then grab the tube and push the two together until the tube seats in place.
Check again in a few days for leaks. That should solve your problem. I could not ID the part in the other photo, but there are usually three places for oil leaks on that side. (1) The oild drain tube (2) the valve cover (3) the timing chain tensioner assembly.
Don't look like the oil is coming from the other two, but you never can tell until you get it all cleaned up.

A little bit more from someone that is paid to observe.

My guess, the oil that you see in the second pic is coming from that opened port from the separator. Note how you see the shiney oil on the left side of the turbo support bracket and you don't really see it on the right side. That oil is coming out of the separator with some of it running down the outside of the return tube where it drains down behind the turbo support bracket to where you see it on the side of the block. The rest of the oil that is coming from the separator is dropping onto the expansion section of exhaust pipe off the turbo, traveling to the bottom of that section and again dropping on the support and side of the block where it collects dirt and makes the mess you see here.

i feel kind of dumb because it was such an easy fix i took out the filter/housing, located the drain pipe, installed it in the drain from the filter housing, and all done! Thanks engatwork for catching that one and all the others that helped out... I just got this car so I guess the people that had it before overlooked this. My question is, I have been watching my oil level for two weeks and I have not seen an oil loss. Is there only a small amount of oil that comes out of the oil return from the "cyclone separator"? Wouldn't all my oil have leak out? Is it clogged or this normal for only a small amount of oil to travel through this area?

Sounds like you have a good engine to me (no oil usage). All of your oil should not leak out through that opening but what little oil does come from there makes a mess as you have already seen. It does not take much oil to make a big mess.

thanks again engatwork. I am glad that it seems like a good engine. I traveled 200 miles to purchase this car from it's original owner. it's a 1983 m-b 300d with 155,000 miles. the owner had the mb maintenance booklet with all worked having been performed for the 20 years he owned the car.
