A healthy 560SEL will have no problems doing 150-160 mph.

The tire isn't going to magically blow up if it is rated for 140mph and you hit 160. The 140mph rating means that it can safely travel at 140mph for 1 hour. I'm sure the 560SEL brand new came with the correct speed rating tires.

Yes, while a 560 can go those speeds just imagine the fuel economy. How many hours, or should I say minutes, can it maintain 150 - 160 mph? Power is good, economy is better.
While a 240D and 560SEL are traveling from point A to point B at a steady 65 mph, the 560SEL is moving twice as fast. In one hour the 560 will be 65 miles away but will have run out of gas. Meanwhile the 560 owner is waiting for a service tech to come out and deliver some fuel, the 240D goes put-put-put past the 560 with plenty of fuel to spare. The owner of the 560 would have to cough up some serious money for petrol in Europe, but the price of diesel would be half of that. Sound like Aesop? Ahhh.. the Tortoise and the Hare. |
