Part removal question?

Theres a plug to the left of the ALDA and right above the shut off valve. Its an electrical connection of somekind how do you remove it? I don't want to break it and have tried twisting, pulling but it wont come out. The cars a 300SDL.

There is a collar on the outside of the round plug - there should be a tab on the collar. Rotate the collar counterclockwise using the tab for leverage and them lift the plug straight up. As I recall you have to rotate the collar about 90 degees or so before the plug can be removed.

Why are you removing this connection? Are you taking the IP out?

Dave M/gsxr has a post with pictures that shows how to remove the ALDA without removing the intake manifold. Remove the ALDA and you'll have no problem removing the shut-off valve.

Fellow 603'ers,

Removing the intake manifold isn't TOO bad - it just takes some good hex sockets (1/4" drive Snap-ons work well), some wobblers, extensions, and of course a ratchet. When it's off, you can do all kinds of fun stuff EASILY, such as:

Replace glowplugs
Replace shutoff valve and gasket
Lube throttle linkage sockets
Adjust ALDA (can be done w/ manifold in place if ALDA is removed)
Replace injector line clips and rubber shims to prevent injector line damage
Replace intake manifold gasket which likes to leak around the #2 intake port
Clean intake manifold of 16+ years of sludge

You should do all this eventually, and removing the manifold allows you to accomplish it quite easily.

Two questions. What is that plug? Also is the ALDA supposed to hold vacum? If so how much? I sucked on mine and it didn't hold any vacum? (that sounds good)

The plug is for the control rod sensor input to the EDS. Wait for your manual!!!

I was told not to apply vacuum to the ALDA. I was also told that vacuum integrity of the ALDA says nothing about how it will perform.
