300d checkout
Well.
I just came back to Mexico yesterday after having my new (to me) 1993 300d for a week. Really great experience! Car is rock solid - no major problems. For the record, the only things I could find wrong with the car is the trip odometer does not work, the steering pulls slightly to the left (only noticable at highway speeds) and there is a very slight "shake" at idle when the car is warm - maybe 2 or 3 cps. I won't do anything about the trip odometer until I have a good reason to pull the instrument cluster. I will get a front end alignment, as the steering feels very tight - only has a slight pull. With the engine shake I have seen on the board here a couple of possibilities: motor mount, engine shock, or the rack dampener screw. My thinking is to try the rackdampener screw first, as the car only has 75K on it. Anyway, I can't get back to it for 5 weeks - this is when I will be transferred back to the USA (it is in St. Louis at my Dad's house). These cars are really solid! There was no fatigue driving for several hours, and I averaged 31.5 mpg with about 25% in city driving - very nice! I can't wait to return and get back into the MB experience. |

There is no rack dampener, and no engine shocks on this model. The motor mounts are 1 piece and easy to replace.

Thanks - I am new to this. On closer look what I though was an engine shoch is the Acc. Belt Damper.
Do you think that motor mounts are causing the shake? The engine is running smoothly - no smoke, no misfires.

There are no separate engine mount shocks. There is a serpentine belt tensioner shock which typically doesn't contribute to engine vibration.
