exhaust leaks
Hi everyone,
I’m working on my 87 300D. The accordion pipe between the 2-pc exhaust manifold is cracked and leaking. I also noticed a small plume spewing from where the turbo bolts to the exhaust manifold. I looked in my MB service manual but it is vague to say the least and shows no gasket at this location. It is just ahead of the accordion pipe that connects to the exhaust system. A star shaped piece that bolts to the turbo. I am sure there must be a metal gasket here. I also don’t see one in the catalog from Performance Parts. Can someone confirm there is a gasket here? And maybe a good online source for parts? Also I heard Haynes or Chilton now has a decent manual for the 300D. Anyone know about that? I have the factory manuals and while they don’t go into much detail on procedures, at least they have detailed drawings. The Popular Mechanics CD is not a lot of help either. Thanks, Brian

My guess is that you are talking about the corrugated tube going the egr valve. I don't know if this part is sold online. You might try the junkyards. I think tubes from w123 cars will work as well. Try doing a search for "EGR block plate" if you want to get rid of the tube all together. I always try and buy my parts from this site. Click the FastLane button at the top of the screen.
