Front sway bar replacement
 

I am working on a 83 300D and the front sway bar end has rusted off. The junkers want $125 and MBZ new wants $300.
Do I have to remove the brake booster and the battery box to replace the sway bar? Any tricks or advice on replacing the sway bar? Thanks in advance.

Someone did this and shared lots of info and pictures.... Billrok maybe ? Did you try a search ?

i can tell you yes, it all has to come off- after that its cake, the bushings are split and are easily replaced - the upper control arms are easy too.

I have to replace the complete sway bar....I tried a search and got only posts about the upper control arms.

Well, I know that the upper passengerside of the front sway bar is mounted below the battery support , so I know that the battery and support will need to come out. Quess what happens on the driversiide?

To rust out the sway bar is extreme rust. That is probably just the tip of the rust iceburg IMHO.

Getting the stuff out in order to get the sway bar out is a huge job.... but pretty straight forward....

I replaced the sway bar and bushings on my 300SD last year. It was a daunting task but taking good notes and some pictures makes it a class A DIY job. Lots of stuff has to come off on a 126 chasssis. The 123's are a bit easier.

I think an ideal way to approach this is to get the donor swaybar from a u-pull-it type place. Then you get to practice with a car that is not your own.
