different battery for euro 300TD?

Looking at picking up a euro 300TD. It needs a battery (runs fine off a jump), and I'll have to take one with me and drive it home. It is non-turbo with a 4speed.
Will it use the grp 49 battery? reverse posts? Searched the archives but didnt see anything on any differences...
Thanks!!
Kevin

P.S.
for this car, what sort of price range would you imagine?
marginal paint (sunny climate), decent interior, manual windows, green/palamino, 4 speed non turbo 83 300TD euro model. supposed to have good tires, it will have a new battery per the above post if I get my question answered. (my hunch says not different but you never know) 126k miles, "runs great" mmm...

would this euro model have the rear leveling system or normal shocks?

Thanks so much!
Kevin

Battery shelf and polarity is exactly the same between 123 Euro and 123 US cars. Group 49 from Autozone is probably the best and cheapest way to go.

Is there any difference between two batteries that both have the same cranking amps & cold cranking amps (Die Hard vs. Wally mart, for example). A mechanic at work told me that the Die Hard will be a lot heavier (lead) than the similar Wal-mart/Autozone/... battery. I find that hard to believe. What do you think?

I dunno. That's actually a good question. There are really only 2 major battery manufacturers in this country. I wouldn't be surprised if they make a special cost down version for a big customer like Wal Mart. I know the Autozone version is made by Johnson Controls, and a lot of members use it with good results. I was thinking that Wal Mart batteries are also by Johnson Controls, but I'm not really sure.

You may not get an answer from the people at the sales counter. But I can tell you my brother was an engineer at a plant that made battery cases for Globe Union, a number of years ago (B4 WalMarts) and they would injection mold a case for Diehards one day, for JC Pennys then Montgomery Wards the next. same guts too. He said the warranty is what costs more for Diehard. My opinion is I have used Interstate for a few years then discovered Autolite at a discount, all grp 49 batteries and all have lasted at least 4 years and in once instance 7 years. OTOH we don't have real cold winters here, but I was also told it was the summer heat that kills batterys, due to increased sulphation or something that comes with elevated temps.
Eric Nguyen, I am sure you have the answer. Isn't it Avogadros number or something? (I know I know, its not atomic core, it is the nucleus thats involved..Argh! )

That was what I had suspected, paying more for a longer warranty (which they prorate, anyway). So no truth to the die hard battery being heavier, huh?
What is a grp49 battery? is that the size or something?

The group# defines the size and where the terminals are located. Following is intersting post from the MBZ archives

Subject: Re: [Re: [MBLIST] 1979 240D Battery]
Bill,
there are 2 ratings used with automotive batteries...cca (cold cranking amps) and reserve capacity. cca represents the amps the battery can provide at 0 degrees (caution some are rated in c, and some in F....when comparison shopping, make sure it's apples to apples.) reserve capacity is VITAL to diesels...it represents, if you will, how long the battery will CONTINUE to
crank at low temperatures(the rating is derived from the number of minutes the battery will continue to supply a set amperage...I think its either 5, or 7 amps).
Many cheap batteries offer 800-1000 cca, but only have about 60 minutes reserve, while 'heavy duty' type batteries can have up to ~240 minutes reserve.
Here in Canada, even Wal Mart offer decent batteries...if it's the same in the US, they offer a group 49 battery with 880cca, and 125 minute reserve that would be about right for a 49 states 240D. it's about $100 Canadian, so I 'd guess at around $60 US. If you do a lot of mountain/cold weather driving and/or dont have access to plug-ins, I'd recommend using dual batteries not
so much for the power, but because cold starts will stress the batteries & starter less, and everything will last longer.
Regards
Chris
DeWinton.

DDH, you read my mind!

Anyone using dual batteries (such as two 600 cca batteries instead of one 880 cca)? It is probably a cheaper way to get more juice ($29-$39 each for the cheap ones, $59-$69+ for one that has a lower cca than the two combined.
Any idea how much the alternator is capable of (relative to battery rating or number of batteries)?
