Floor Mats - A bad purchase

FYI, to anyone out there who may be looking at floor mats for their car. A few months ago I bought a set (on sale) from Performance Products to use in my 124 and I must say I am disappointed. The mats themselves are fine but the attachment system, a metal clip that hooks on to the factory carpet, is worthless. The mats get pushed forward and are making the carpet get all bunched up underneath. The rear mats are now all bent up from moving around under the seats as well. Years ago I bought a set of mats for my 123 from Beverly Hills Accessories that had a rubber bottom covered with hard little nubs that sunk into the carpet and they never moved. Both the mats and the carpet underneath those old mats are still in great shape. The new mats however are starting to ruin the carpet and won't stay put after just a few months. I'm disappointed.

The OEM mats, still in my MB after 230K, are the best I've ever seen.

I just bought real MB floor mats from Rusty at *************** and they are perfect. Make the interior look like new and have not slid or moved on inch. I agonized over what to buy for months and finally did this and have no regrets at all. Less than $100.

sounds like you did get factory mats, i got some from the dealershi[p and it was the same deal with the foam underside and stupid metal clips. the original mats also had the foam underside. i havent figured out a way to keep them from moving but if you do, let us know

Alan, was that $100 apiece or $100 for all 4?

I don't know if my mats are original or not, but they're not in very good shape, especially the driver's mat...

Thanks!

Rusty's price was 89.95 for a set of four.

Just ordered two sets today.

Way

Does anyone have any pics of what they look like, by chance? Also, how do they stay in one place? Is the bottom rubber, or are there some sort of hold-downs, or what?

Mine just sit there, and wind up getting moved al over the place within minutes of straightening out...to the point where there are creases worn in them. :(

Alan Hamm 02-27-2004 07:22 PM

I have not done anything to mine other than put them in place. They fit perfect. They are OEM and they ordered mine using the VIN # to be sure the color was just right.

Mine have not slipped one bit.

Bill, except for the colors, you just described mine...and I had figured that they were original?

So, I now have to ask, what do the OEM mats look like? :)

VeeDubTDI 02-27-2004 09:31 PM

My orignial floor mats have creases in them from sliding around under feet for almost 300,000 miles. I suppose it's time to order some new ones. I'll give Rusty a call since $100 for 4 seems like a very good deal.

Picture a perfect fit right where they should go and a perfect color match. Rusty orders them and they are shipped from MB.

I really considered all the options and ended up doing this and have no regrets. It has only been about 3 weeks, but I cannot see them bunching up.

I think the metal clip attachment hooks to the main carpet up next to the seat. This way the clip keeps the mat from sliding forward.

lrg 03-01-2004 02:14 PM

That metal clip is exactly what the PP mats have and all it does is bunch up the carpet underneath as the mat slides around. From what I've seen the mats with the metal clip that hooks onto the carpet underneath definitely do NOT work.
