Injection pump oil leak
 

Injection pump is leaking oil at bottom of flat plate on driver side of the pump and under the fuel pump (?). What seals do I need to fix the leak problem?

There are to many injection pumps to guess without make, model, year, engine.
W107, W114/115, W116, W123, W124, W126, W201???

It's an OM60X pump. The side plate gasket is an easy fix, just remove the screws and replace the gasket. On my OM602 engine their were two possible side plate gaskets so make sure you have your VIN when you are at the dealer ordering the replacement gasket.

The gasket under the pump is another story... There is a member here that changed it without removing the injection pump but most people will remove the pump to replace the gasket. The screws for the plate under the pump are torx t-25 bolts as I recall.

Your photos don't seem to show much leakage - I'd let it go until the leaks got much worse.

I have a similar leak on the side plate on the IP of my '80 W123 300D.
While idling there seems to be a "mist" coming from the sideplate. If I dribble water onto the top edge of the sideplate, bubbles form and blow the water off.

When the engine comes off idle, the mist seemas to disappear. While it may be just that the airflow from the fan is dispersing the "mist", I did not see any more bubbles when I dribbled more water onto the sideplate top edge.

It doesn't look bad because I had recently cleaned it and driven less than 30 miles since cleaning. The car is an 87 300D (603). I will keep an eye on it, but it (oil leak) does irritate me more than being a technical concern. Pulling the IP is something I did not consider being required, though.

I know how you feel - I replaced the gaskets in mine because the small leak annoyed me.

I did check the archives and a member named "The Bob" did manage to replace the gasket without removing the IP. He was doing this job right around the time I had my pump out to replace the gaskets and I clearly remember thinking that if he could get a socket on the bolts on the bottom of the pump while it was in place he was much better with a wrench than I was.

You might want to drop him a line and see how he did it because removing the IP is not easy and it does require several specialized MB service tools.
