Right now, I'm not running used engine lube oil for fuel because I've determined that it probably contains particles larger than 10 microns (I read that particles between 7-15 microns cause the most wear in the IP). At some point in the not too distant future, I hope to set up a filtering apparatus and use a <5 micron fuel filter assembly to prefilter my waste lube oil before using it as fuel.

Lance,
How did you determine that it was the lube oil that caused this?

At $2 a quart, why would you want to run clean new engine oil?

Ultra low sulfer diesel fuel, guess I have until '06 to convert to veg.

It happened within 12 hours of puoring 3Q of used rotella-t oil into 1/2 tank of fuel and they both went at the same time. I don't recall which # cylinders it happened on.

My SD (the 82) essentially has no smoke at all, not even when I start it up, it used to have more than it does now, but I have become fanatic and always pour an entire 32oz bottle of mystery oil in my tank at each fill up....since I have been doing that it idles extremely smooth, runs smoother in general, feels more powerful, and produces no visible smoke at all during the day, so no smoking anyone for me I guess. At night there's still some "visible" exhaust, but nothing dark enough to make "use" of .......I won't quit the mystery oil though, it works wonders!! Maybe I will pour 2-3 bottles in per fill up .....or not....I'd go broke....$3 a bottle.

We use Redline Diesel Fuel Catalyst in both of our diesels. On most times I fueled up lately, I've used a whole bottle of the stuff. I once used STP Diesel Fuel Treatment as a substitute, it's the stuff in a light blue bottle. I notice no smoke under full acceleration in the 300D. Although, the 300SD is another story. Since my father started driving it again, it rarely sees a full throttle acceleration. So, when I give it one, some black smoke will come out. But, I think combined with the right additive, a good oil, and the right kind of driving, there will be little or no smoke.

Those "tailgaters" are a pain in the a--. I sometimes just beg them to get closer and then stop at a light. I start out slow and let them get right under me, then I put my "Big Foot" into the floor and shove a Big Blast of Black A-- smoke right down their air intakes. It's actually works in them backing off ur A--. You'd be suprise how many fall further behind you, not wanting to smell ur Diesel Smoke. Maybe they fear your car is about to "blow up" and mess up their nice car. hehe

I'm having a problem with vacuum building up in my fuel system right now, so when I have to take a hill I bog way down....like to 40mph....in a 60....it's also been smoking more since this started...so when I had a Lexus climbing all over my backside the other day, I choked the dude out......he was not happy at all.....

Even when having problems I have fun!

on my 87 300td, the exhaust points towards the driver's side at a good enough angle to get the people that go 55 in the left lane of the highway. roll past the prick, let it coast so there is no boost, then floor it to kickdown and without an alda and the 3.5L om603 pump, it lays a nice thick cloud until the turbo catches up i always wonder if it smells bad if their not on recirculate same theory for tailgaters in town and works better. just let it coast until it up- shifts as much as it can and floor it
