LightMan and I were corresponding via instant messenger about this all afternoon. The old one was perfectly positioned and seemed to be fine. But he was afraid that if he replaced it he might have problems positioning the new gasket properly and getting it to stay in place while installing the manifold. But a tech told him on the phone that a dab of RTV in a few spots on the edge of the gasket would take care of that concern.

Great write up - thanks. I heard somewhere (maybe on this list) that the Beru plugs specifically say not to use an anti-sieze. Don't know about the Bosches. Anything to that?

Not sure. I didn't use any anti-seize but may next time around. The glowplugs included no instructions whatsoever, or warnings against using anti-seize.

I suspect the a-s warning is because if you apply a-s, and then use a torque wrench, you'll strip the threads out in a heartbeat - requiring removal of the cylinder head to repair (if you're lucky). I'd like to hear any other info on this though. Can't imagine it affects GP operation in any way.
