to answer e-mail. Re: Announcement: VIRUS ALERT!

Hello Everyone
The reason I know that the virus is being sent to forum members.
I got an e-mail with attachment from webmaster@peachparts.com
I am a paranoid person; on the internet.
I only open attachments I am expecting.
I forwarded a copy of the e-mail with attachment to webmaster@peachparts.com requesting confirmation that he sent it to me.
Announcement: VIRUS ALERT! appeared moments later.
I trashed the message and attachment that started this.

I have Norton antivirus, but the live update won't work.

Anybody know how I can get it to work?

PEH I had the exact same problem too. Since I reformat often I reinstall the virus scan software often. The first time I even ran norton the live update worked, but never since on any of the other reformats I've done. I believe you can download the latest dats off their website.

I think it times out. After a certain time goes by the thing no longer updates and you have to buy the newest version. They will eventually stop making virus data (dats) updates that you can download manually for that version as well. It's how they make money.

norton antivirus

my live update didn't work so i tried uninstalling then reinstalling the program.
live update still didn't work so i uninstalled the program, deleted all the program folders manually including the liveupdate folder, then reinstalled from the cd files. worked fine after that.

i think the subscription is good for one year of updates.

Coachgeo,

I paid for the latest updates. The Antivirus works, just not the Live Update.

Uninstall everything Symantec related. Delete all program file folders. Run a registry cleaner and delete any references to Symantec/Norton/LiveUpdate. Reboot. Reinstall.

I believe there is an app available from Symantec that will do this, but don't quote me.

I highly suggest AVG free edition antivirus available at www.grisoft.com

Dreamliner,

I just installed the AGV program today and it found 5 viruses that Norton overlooked. So I'm not going to bother with Norton
anymore.

I love AVG. I will never use a Symantec security product again. Unfortunately they just recently bought PowerQuest, makers of DriveImage and Partition Magic.

Getting a virus that appears to be from webmaster@peachparts.com does not mean that there is a problem with mercedesshop. It just means that someone, somewhere who has both your email address and webmaster@peachparts.com in their address book has a virus.

This is very, very common, and there's not anything you can do but keep deleting the viruses and wait for whoever it is to figure out that they're infected and fix it.

I'd bet money that you are also getting virus emails that appear to be from other people who you may or may not know. Chances are that many of them are coming from the same place.
