MB's Diesel Elec. Hybrid

I have not confirmed this but I have heard it is in the works. Now my question is....... on a hybrid designed like the ..Yota Pyrus the gas engine instantly kicks on for battery charging ANDD to assit the car when going up hills etc. Well how would you do this latter part with a diesel that needs a glow plug cycle before starting? you could be atop the hill before the diesel engine kicks in, or allready ran over by a trucker:p

Learn something new everyday. Or is it show your ignorance every day....

Well even if it DID need a preglow... you'd have to only worry about it on first start up. Then the engine is already warm. So if it does shut down the engine while driving, when it kicks it back on it will not need to have a preglow.

I read that earlier with great interest but my memory stuck on the Sprinter hybrid and forgot about the car. My bad. Here is Rick's post from the other thread.

Navigate your way through all the hype to the "Performance" section. They've implemented it in Shockwave Flash, so I can't provide a direct link, but here's the text.

"The dual drive combines a state-of-the-art V8 diesel engine (247 hp) and an electric motor (67 hp) to deliver 634 lb-ft of torque, by European standards - a record for hybrid drive technology that saves 20% of fuel compared to an equivalent Diesel.

"Electronic load sharing between the two power units maximizes the advantages of each, with the zero-emissions electric motor predominating at low speeds. The energy normally dissipated under braking is used to generate electricity."

Take that, Prius!
