'95 E300D Fuel Leak Repair
I'm having to look into a fuel leak this evening on my '95 E300D. Does the intake manifold have to come off to be able to get in there? (I'm thinking so!). Any gotcha's in this procedure?

I'm replacing the 5 plastic fuel lines on mine tonight. Supposedly there is enough clearance on the W210 if you remove the washer bottle. Don't know if the W124 is the same. Part numbers for the fuel lines are my post here.

Good luck and PLEASE post back and let me know how it goes. I just ordered a set of lines from Phil also. Did you order the plastic retaining clips?
Are you going to remove the cross-over pipe? If so, do you have to remove the intake gasket?

Mine doesn't have the crossover pipe like yours. But I will post back about the repair.

I was able to do 5 of the 6 without removing the manifold. The manifold will definitely have to come off for the last one, because it is on the engine side of the injection pump, and attached with a banjo bolt. Fortunately, that one is not leaking so I can leave it for a while. All the others were just plastic clips. Working through the space left by moving the washer bottle, it took me about an hour. Your mileage may vary.
Take a look at LightMan's post here for instructions to remove the intake manifold. I know yours isn't the same, but it may help. A new gasket isn't absolutely required, but is highly recommended.

So Rick, how are you going to spend the $1,000 you saved on this by doing it yourself? How about a "new" 240? You gotta love the concept, do it yourself and save enough to buy a new car. Good work!

Yes, if you remember my original post about the $793 fuel leak, the dealership wanted to do my front brakes and replace my valve cover gasket, which was not leaking. Their total estimate was $1600. I've now done the fuel lines and the front brakes and spent $340 at Fastlane. That total included $12 in O rings that are not required (tech made a mistake in his notes) and also stocking up on filters for both cars and a few extra parts for the 240D. The actual total for the E300 fuel lines and front brakes, including new rotors, is probably less than $250.
BTW, I'm on the lookout for a replacement 240D. Perfesser Leaky will then become a parts car.
