I have to completely recharge the A/C system in the talon after getting a new drier and all new seals, it worked excellent until last winter which is when it must have failed. What doesn't make sense to me is how it is still airtight (I put a little air in it to test this, months later it was still holding) but yet it leaked out all of the pressurized freon in a couple months. I'm guessing the compressor took a crap as I don't know what else could do this. Very low priority though. |
Just to wrap the thread up, I ended up getting R-12 from TRS Sales, www.trssales.com. They charged me $26/can plus the shipping cost. I got the EPA 609 certification from IMACA (www.imaca.org), for $15.

$26 for a 12oz can? Sounds a bit steep.

Yes I am. I figure if he already got his, I would try to get some cheap just in case.
I have 4 cans laying around, but it can' t hurt to have some more. |
Good job on not passing up a good deal plantman. :)
(It had no bidders on it when I linked it.) |

I think I have about 10 lbs left in my can. I bought a 20 lb can from Meijer, years ago for $199. I though it was outragous then! |
jivadent,
With all due respect, what kind of A/C guy are you consulting that doesn't have an electronic sniffer? You need a better A/C guy. My A/C guy only does it part time now, has a Snap-On sniffer he bought over the internet for $50. Not having a sniffer is a sign of a non-professional A/C tech. I'm not saying he can't do the job, but its a sign. Be wary, get educated.....this isn't an issue of getting ripped off, its an issue of avoiding $$$ down the road. Good luck. (Hearing too many horror stories of gas station (Pep Boys, Sears etal.) A/C jobs going bad). |
