another one for the stable update
the other day I posted that I won the bid for a 83 300D located on Long Island for $910 bucks. It advertised that the tranny slipped. On my initial drive, prior to bidding ,it surely did slip. Well I checked the fluid level that day and it wasn't even on the stick.I decided to bid anyway. A Great decision for once!
I went today to bring it home and before I attempted to move it I added the 2 Qts it was low. Guess What? The tranny is fine. Thats all it needed. Shifts nicer than my TD The A/C blows cold and even the cruise works. I found the owners paperwork and it showed that this is a 1 owner car and was always serviced at an MB dealer. It was definately a garaged car and it appears the owner donated it to the Lung Foundation for the write off. This seller (dealer) I got it from buys all the charity cars. Guess who's getting first crack now at any MB he gets? MEEEEE!!! It such a good feeling to "win" every know and then. Though as my luck always is, my 28 year old boiler started leaking bad on Thurs so tomorrow is "New Boiler day$$$$" Oh well, MIke |
just goes to show ya - "you win some you lose some" :D
congrats on a great find ! now we surely need pics.. :) |
Nice find!
It's great that the only problem with the transmission was low fluid.

Way
Congrats!! |
pics are there. scan up on ebay link.

The pics look pretty good! The paint could probably use a good wax and buff, but otherwise it looks like the body is in pretty good shape. It would be nice to have pictures of the frame... I'm curious as to the amount of rust on the underside.

Good score!

For every action there is a reaction.
Good luck. I'm going to look at an 84 station on sunday. Owner says: 256K interior imaculate. Exterior some rust, needs tires and brakes. Not ebay car. $2200 obo. Louis. |
The car will be up on my lift Sunday and my buddy says he will "wheel" the car out for me. Should shine up nice. I will take photos of underside as well as after polished photos and post them. Thanks for all the positive replies. Mike

Wow, nice car for the money! I thought I did well getting mine for $860 on ebay. Still think so, but we won't talk about how much I've spent on parts (stop smiling, Phil!). 163,000..? Not even broken in yet!

Try sealer or epoxy on your boiler before replacing it. I fixed a cracked hot water radiator with epoxy 14 years ago and its still holding fine.

The car looks like a definate score. As far as the boiler, she has gotten me through many a tough winter. She deserves a nice Viking funeral . It was a cheapo builders boiler made of steel. I think the reason I got so many years out of it was I have a seperate oil fired hot water heater, so every summer, I shut the boiler down. Some say thats not good but I literally only used it 6 months a year. Anyway, back to the Benz tomorrow.....
