SD window stopped working- HELP rain coming
The driver window suddenly stopped on '84 SD about an inch down. When the switch is pushed the lights dim slightly, a faint click comes from the door, and if you hold it down, there's a loader click like a circuit breaker that resets itself a few seconds later. Sounds like the motor is getting power but jammed. What do you think, am I going to have to pull the door panel? Any tips so I don't break anything? I know how to pull the plastic door latch cover, the armrest etc. but what about the clips?

open the door put one hand on each side of the window and pushup while a helper operates the switch.

This is for the 123, but should be similar.

If you find yourself in this situation, you will be best off feeling behind the window motor for three bolts. Take these bolts of and then pull the motor but keep it connected for the meanwhile. With the motor pulled push the switch again. If nothing happens this is your problem. I disconnected the motor and took it all the way out. I opened the motor up which was held together by two screws that requred a hex key to remove. On the inside, one half of the motor is a corksrew type asembly and the other half is a plastic gear. There was a lot or crap in their and I just got some degreaser and cleaned it all out. After you maked sure everthing that you can clean is taken care of spray some wd40 into the half of the motor with the corkscrew sticking out into both ends. Do the same to the other half. After you've done this, get some grease, i used bearing grease and greased the corkscrew part. After this put the motor back together then hook it back up to the power and see if it works. If so its time to put it back together which is the hard part. Since the regulator is spring loaded, you have to hold it in a certain position to get the motor and everything back in there properly. Just mess with it and you'll get back in. Hook everything back up and you should be good to go.

I posted the same problem a week ago
I think my problem was different from yours, as my windows stopped working altogether (in a '84SD). I recieved and utilized the sage advice of this forums' members with great success. Before you panic, pry out (carefullY) your window switches. Carefully disconnect the wires and very carefully disassemble your switches. I was amazed at how much gunk there was inside my switch. After a thorough cleaning my windows are in tip top order. Perhaps your connections are cruddy enough to not allow full current to pass through the wiring.
Just a suggestion and possibly a cheap fix. |

Well, it turns out to be the motor. I'll do full pics of the removal soon, but with it pulled out and lubed up I connected it without installing it in the door and it would turn a few times, get hot and die. So, anybody got an '84 SD drivers window motor? At least the windows closed now..
