Injector by-pass lines, what's the best way to install them?
 

I had a tough time installing my injector by-pass lines when I changed my injectors on my '85 300D. The toughest part was trying to slip them on all the way onto the barbs and get the ends all the way down to the injector body. Anyone have any tips on installing them? I got mine on but most of them are not all the way down to the injector bodies and I'm worried about them blowing off while driving. They seem to be on enough not to leak but I have a feeling I could pull them off without cutting them at this point.

1. use actual MB hoses
2. put a couple of drops of fuel in them before installing....
3. If you need more mechanical advantage try using spark plug boot installing plyers

Maybe part of my trouble is that I am reusing my original lines. They looked fine so I thought that there would be no harm in that. They still had fuel dripping from them when I tried slipping them on. I didn't think about using my spark plug boot plyers but I have a feeling they may be to big to get in the tight spaces by the injector lines. I won't know that until I try it.

You got it. You can get a length of line for about $3. I have rarely had luck reusing old line unless previously replaced.

Push about a quarter inch above the top of the tube with one hand to bell the inside to keep the line from being pulled together where it meets the top of the tube.... by the pushing with the other hand...

I dipped the ends to go over the barbs in a mug of hot tap water to soften them up just a bit. worked great. Much better than when I tried to shove them on minus any assistance.
Make sure there is no water in the hose when you put it on though... I put my finger over the other end to prevent any water from getting in, then shook it dry before putting it on. The mug sat nicely on the air filter can.
