190D w/veggie conversion for sale
I found a 190D for sale with the veggie conversion!
http://www.cars.com/search/used/cc/standard/results/single/nl/detail.jhtml?paId=141607224&aff=national&src=&cid= I'd consider it, but I want a manual.

Well yes, but some than others. It helps to narrow it down a little.

the original thread lists some brake problems / needs with that car. it does seem like an interesting conversion though. what is a little confusing is as i read it, it seems the original diesel tank was to be used for veggie oil and only an aux 5 gal tank for diesel... or am i reading it wrong??

My next door neighbor in S. Texas just bought a 350 TD or such from a man in Mass. that converts them to greasemobiles. I think his site is Greasecar.com or there abouts. There are hundreds of such sites (bio-Diesel)on the net.
To run these cars on gease when you live where it gets cold is a bit more complicated than where it stays warm most of the time. Up there you need 2 seperate systems. A Diesel system to start and stop the car on and the fry oil fuel to run on. You also need a hot water system from your radiator to keep the oil liquid. Where it is warm one can pretty much run the car on straight fry oil (any oil that stays liquid at room temp.) right out of the dump tank at your local burger shop. It needs to be filtered obviously but the process isn't too complicated. I have never heard of anyone being hasseled by the Feds. for non-payment of road tax but it could happen. My son works at a local burger stand (hopefully not for the rest of his life) and plans to use the odd 5 gals. of oil in the new (1975) 300D I just got for him. This will save him a couple of bucks a week and make a lot more work for Dad. When did that ever bother a child? |
