Bypass oil filtration - is it as good as they say?
I have heard claims that if a bypass filter (toilet roll type) is used, eg Framm, then you never need to change the oil of replace the full flow filter ever again.
There is one made in Western Australia, the 4M, or Mil-Mac. The proprietor has a 300D with >600 000km on the clock, with no overhaul. As a Skeptic from way back I doubt these claims, but does anyone here have any real life experience with these units?

That's right!
With a Fram, you don't ever need to replace the filter...you just replace the whole motor.

Yes, bypass filters can work really well depending on the type you have. You still have to replace the full flow however..... usually can go for the longest recommended change interval on it. And the oil has to be monitored if you aren't going to change it.... it may stay clean but the additives can still wear out. I had a bypass on my truck (Oilguard) which worked really well according to the oil analysis, I took it off a while back because I have other warranty issues and don't want to be denied because it isn't totally stock. 600,000km on a 300D with no overhaul isn't all that much if the oil is changed or kept clean however. (Ok, it's a lot, but not unheard of.)
