Question 240D

If Mercedes decided to re-start production of the 240D next year, what improvements would YOU recommend to the engineers and designers?

Noise reduction techniques from the later cars. Otherwise, keep it the same, simple, reliable and durable. Jim

a 240d huh...

well

1)rack and pinion
2)electronic control gauges
3)better gauges, ie back lit - mutlifunction
4)hid headlamps
5)the corner/head lamp to hood line lineup
6)plastic inner wheel wells
7)better interior lighting, footwells, map
8)electric locks, not on driver door
9)a better steering wheel with correct ip

i am sure i can think of more...

but...
since any other suggestion of mine would be performance, apperance driven...ill hold at that.

Change nothing..

Of course being new to the car, I am still on my honeymoon. BUT, I will say that the car is perfect in a 24D kind of way. If I wanted other features, I would buy another Mercedes.

I've owned many cars. None of them had any horsepower to spare. I always liked that you have to have more wits and cunning to drive a modestly powered automobile.

I agree with "engatwork": a 5-speed transmission would make the 240D as perfect a car as I would ever want.

So if somebody offered to swap in a 617.952 (turbo 300D motor) free of charge you wouldn't be interested one bit?! I think that'd be a neat conversion to have the "power" of a 300D in the 240D with a manual transmission in it.

You can always add more power, if it isn't broken fix it until it is!

I like my 240D the way it is. Seriously I can't think of anything that I'd want to change.

Actually there is one thing: wheel covers that are easier to remove and install and that don't scratch the wheels. That's about it.

That's what I was thinking..

For all the people that slober over bare bones euro cars, I'm surprised more people don't take a not well optioned 240d and just stick a 617 turbo in them and some alloy rims and have about the same thing. The thought has occured to me a time or two.
