603 inter-injector line OD/ID?

We just got this wonderful 300TD W124 yesterday and have to change out the inter-injector lines. I don`t have access to a parts manual at the moment and wonder if anyone can tell me the OD/ID of these fuel lines. Thanks in advance.

I think most people just buy a meter long section for about $10. Its called "injector return line hose" and available on this site (FastLane).

Use the MB hose -- I've not found anything else that will last very long except diesel rated fuel line, and finding some that small (a bit less than 1/8" -- 2mm) is very difficult.

A bit pricey, but if installed correctly, will last for some years.

When you remove the old line, if it is brittle, make SURE all the bits are off the nipples on the injectors. A chunk of old hard hose on there will split the new hose wide open.

Best way to remove the old ones (unless they are rock hard and glassy) is to take a pair of needle-nosed pliers and grip the side of the hose along the nipple and crush the old hose. This will tear it off completely -- make sure, of course, that you don't "bite" into the nipple itself. Usually even on hardened hose this will completely remove the old line. Check for bits, though -- if the lines are completely petrified you will have to chip the remnants off (carefully -- scratches on the nipple will cause fuel leaks).

To install, grip the line with the needle-nosed pliers just above where the nipple will end up and push down. Make sure the hose is seated completely.

Easy job.

Peter

Mine were tough to pull off with pliers... so I used a carpet blade and carefully made a slit in the line at the injector and it pulls right off with ease. Worst part is the diesel that is in the lines gets everywhere and the diesel in the injectors runs out and pools wherever it can.

I want to replace the lines with Viton to handle the B100 diet it will be on, which is why I need the specific size.

2.5mm, I think.

Viton will melt if you have any diesel fuel running through it.

Thanks. We`ve had Viton on the TDIs for years and it has no issues with our B80/Kero winter blend.

FWIW, Fastlane lists it as 1.9 x 3.2

Thanks Palangi, that`s what I was looking for. Now I just have to convert metric to standard.

Well, if it works on the VW, no reason it won't on the Benz. I would guess it's the same size hose, too, if it's for injector overflow line.

Hmm. May have confused Tygon with Viton (it's late).

I can tell you that Tygon will not hold up to the B100.

And thanks for the conversion Palangi.

If you use a razor or other blade, don't cut all the way through the hose - it can nick the metal nipple and cause leaks with the new hose! Only cut part way into the rubber, or better yet, just pinch it off carefully with pliers. One meter will replace all the lines and it's available from FastLane, Rusty, the dealer, etc. Don't use generic hose for this - get the proper braided-cover stuff.

Dave,

soypwyrd is asking about the diameter because he will be using biodiesel. The lines on VW TDI's must be replaced or it will leak from the use of biodiesel. He knows this from experience. He'll use the same hose material on the MB as he does the VW.

Wooops. I missed that part. Question - what material is used on the OE dealer hose? Is the aftermarket hose any different? Does B100 eat either one?
