What holds the headliner up?
Hello!
Back by the back seat, I think my headliner's sagging. It's only a bit, and I actually thought that it might be normal until I looked at a friend's (just-acquired) 300D today. Given that the headliner's in perfect shape, I'd like to re-attach it now before any damage is done/ Is it just glued on, or are there mechanical connections? How is the headliner (behind the sunroof) removed to re-attahc properly? Thanks in advance!

Very nice!
I have to ask, though; why do they want you to remove the rear window? Is it necessary to detach the headliner, or is that just so you have a place to pull it out? I don't think I need ot actually replace anything on the headliner; just need to figure out why it's sagging and repair that... |

when i replaced the real glass seal last summer i saw that the headliner was tucked under the seal and held in there....i had to make sure that the headliner was back up under the seal and pressed into locked possition to insure that the headliner was tight....the first time putting the seal in the headliner moved/came loose, we had to take the glass out again, RETAPE the headliner to the sill, then put the glass back in.
just some info Jake |

I thought I'd just post the entire section to see if'd help you out. Removing the rear window would probably make the job easier for the very reason BF_JC230 mentioned. It's probably possible to fix w/o removing the window but you might need to be very careful when doing it as I would think the headlining material is fairly brittle. You might need lots of good glue.
Good Luck!

Might be easier to inject glue with a needle and syringe in places.

Ugh...with the lack of the proper equipment to safely pull the rear window, I may just have to live with it, at least for now. I don't have access to syringes (they're only available by perscription around here), and even if I did, I'm not 100% sure where the right places to be injecting the glue would be.
C'est la vie... |

You could always run over to SF and search around the back alleys, I'm sure you'd find a used one.
Seriously, I think there is an automotive type syringe that some parts store have. I've also seen some adhesives sold in the box stores that come in a syringe-like package as well.
