Anyone have a good spare used injector for a 300D turbo?

I was calling around town today looking for used injectors for my '85 300D but none of the wrecking yards around here even have any 300D's. So I was wondering if anyone in the forum has a good used injector or two they want to get rid of. Let me know if we can work something out.
Thanks.
DJ

I have some good used injectors, but they are from an OM603.

Why do you need to replace it? If it is not mechanically damaged such as stripped threads, simply disassemble it and soak it overnight in old fashioned caustic carburetor cleaner. If you're doing more than one, make sure you do them one at a time, DO NOT interchange the parts.

Good luck,

Larry - I'm thinking that there is something worn out, perhaps a spring, for it to be causing a very loud click. I ran some Diesel Purge though the system last year but it didn't help any. I did manage to get a copy of Pindelski's step by step process on how to disassemble and clean them when the site was free. I guess it wouldn't hurt to try cleaning the suspect injector. If it helps I'll clean the rest of them.
Thanks.

Marcb, the injectors from a 603 won't work. They pop at a different pressure. Thanks anyway.

Liet,

How many pages here is it going to take to have you get your IP tested. I hope its not as many as it took to get you to check your timing chain. What we saved you on not replacing the timing chain will probably pay to get your pump tested.

Why do you insist on replacing the IP when you don't know if anything is wrong with it?

P.E.H. - I'm not looking to replace the IP, just the suspect injector. The heading on this thread says I'm looking for a spare injector not IP. Sorry for any confusion. Right now I am going to just take the suspect injector apart and soak it in some good carb cleaner and see what it does.
I appreciate that you helped save me money. If I can find a way to save money, I will. I am about as stingy as they get.

I hate to repeat myself, but is there a reason you don't want to have the injectors tested at a reputable shop. Really, if you are going to keep this car very long, and I'm not sure you are, then getting a shop to check the injectors is the most economical way to proceed.

If they are in need of a rebuild, price them. If they are more than getting rebuilds from fastlane, then buy them from fastlane.

You know my thoughts on spending money (or time) wastefully. However, injectors are critical for the performance of these cars, and, in my opinion, worth every cent on test/repair.

I don't know of any in my area.
The closest MB mechanic doesn't even have a test stand. I'm going to exhaust every idea I come by that won't cost me anything or minimally before I seek professional help. One of the main reasons I got the car was to do all the work myself. I have over 20 years experience with gassers but only about 6 years with diesels, including one year with my 300D. I thought I really wouldn't have to do anything with the engine for a few years at least. The previous diesel I had was a Datsun King Cab pick up and I never needed to do a thing to it except change the oil and filters. The engine it had kind of looked like an old push-rod MB diesel engine and it even used a Bosch type injection system. My dad bought it off of me and still drives it 11 years later.

liet,

Sorry I read it wrong, thought you wanted an IP.

Is there a trucking company in your area? If so, ask the mechanics there where they get their IP or injectors serviced.

Good idea, P E H. Theres a huge truck stop in the Portland area about an hour from where I live called Jubitz. I bet if I called there they could refer me to someone.

You might want to swap the injectors. If the problem follows the injector then you know the root cause.

I'm pretty sure that I have narrowed it down to the suspect injector. I was cracking the lines at the injectors and the clicking stopped when I cracked the #5 line. That's why I was hoping that someone in the forum would be willing to part with one of their used injectors so I could swap it out. Right now I've got the injector apart soaking in some carb cleaner. I'll see if it will make a difference when I put it back together.

Good News!

I just put the injector back together and reinstalled it. The car started up good and even finally idled on its own while it was cold albeit with a slight miss. It ran great after it warmed up a little and....the annoying click looks like its finally gone. There was some soot in and on the needle valve body when I first took it apart but the rest of the parts looked amazingly clean. One thing though I noticed there was some grooves in the large tapered washer that goes on top of the nozzle body, I guess its called the nozzle holder insert according to the FSM. Is this normal?

liet,

Are the injectors you have in the engine now the original ones or the replacement ones?

Did you use any special tools like the 27mm socket or the crow's foot for the injectors? Did you replace the fuel return line? How about the washers that go between the injectors and the cylinder head? I also have nailing, and it takes my car quite a bit of cranking to start even when the engine is hot. It didn't do that when I bought it in August.
I also think that the IP needs to be times but that is a whole nother matter. I still don't fully understand that process but you will all hear from me whn summer comes along and I can go without a car for a couple days.
Thanks
David
