240D needs a good home
Several weeks ago, I met Nels, the owner of a 30 year old Mercedes. Tonight, Nels, phoned me to ask if I was interested in buying his '74 240D. He brought it over to my house so I could give it a test drive.
Nels bought the car new, in Germany. Automatic, AC and PS. 160,000 miles. Good Pirellis. Mostly original medium blue metallic paint still looks decent. Left front fender was repainted awhile ago, after being backed into by a schoolbus. Some fender rusting behind tires but rest of body is straight and rockers look solid. Usual 30 year old W115 issues - couple of dash cracks and drivers seat padding weak but rest of interior looked OK. Heater blower inoperative but AC fan and compressor did come on when checked. Rear brakes squeaked and pedal got hard after first stop - may need vacuum pump service. Accelerator pedal travel limited - may need adjustment. Otherwise, engine and trans seemed OK during my brief test drive. I'm not really into Diesels and would prefer a stickshift (But with rising fuel prices, that could change!) Nels would like to find his baby a good home for $1500 / OBO. Contact him at - Nelsusma@aol.com Happy Motoring, Mark
