Will injectors from a turbo 300D work in a 240D?
Well, thats the question. In my other post, I detail the sudden onset of rough idle and a progressive loss of power. I am thinking it might be an injector problem. My local U-Pull-It junkyard sells injectors for $8 each. If they would work, I might risk the $32.
I am wondering if injectors from a 5 cylinder will work in the 4 cyl--swapped in as a set. |

$8 each is a STEAL! Buy all you can. The 300D (non-turbo) injectors are the same, both pop at 115. The Turbo ones pop at 135 so that might be a little too retarded for you and make the problems worse.
Also, the older nozzles (1510 and dns 220) had a different pintle tip, the later tips are better so look for ones that don't have a long "pin" sticking out, but just a short stub of a pin with a tiny hole in the middle. I have a set of 240D injectors with the new tip, but I've rebuilt and balanced them and they are..., well...., MORE than $8!

As I recall the turbo injectors open at a much higher pressure, I don't think they would work.
The non-turbo's open at 105-110 Bar and the turbo's are 130-140 Bar. |

I asked my ind mech the same thing. He said that there are no problems, just that the turbo injectors may nail in a nonturbo engine. I put five turbo injectors in my 617.912 non turbo motor. It seems to run fine, with no unusual performance issues. It does seem to nail a little bit.
I am curious as to the long term issues. I wonder if the injection pump will wear quicker. |

Well I guess you will find out, your IP is now delivering 135-140 Bar to open the turbo injectors. I don't know if the higher pressures will harm anything.
I also agree with Tom, it seems like it would take your non-turbo IP more time to create the higher pressure, this would have an effect on injection timing. Hard to say how much - if it runs OK I would guess the effect is fairly small. Tim |
