Wink I can't believe..

I can't believe how inter-related everything is on these motors. EVERYTHING. You can't adjust the ALDA, the bowden cable, the vacuum bleed valve, the throttle lincage, anything, without it effecting something else somehow. I've know this awhile, but it keeps pointing itself out to me again.

Case in point. I cranked up the line pressure, sorted out the vacuum system awhile ago, got rid of my soft shifts. Had hard shfts at a lighter throttle postion than I should have. Not really bad, but there. This is because it was going to 5 inches of vacuum at any decent acceleration. Everything was set up right, the 10mm spec on the bleed valve, the source vacuum, even played with the colored orifices nobody ever mentiones(which are interisting), but it was still there. I wrote it off to my slightly leaky modulator. The other day, I was under there and had a moment so I RTV'd the rubber cap on the modulator, most of the leak is gone, still shifting hard. Put a vac gauge on it, as it's been months since I messed with it, and noticed the 5 inch reading at most any throttle position. I happened to be checking the cruise servo arm length today, and noticed I was about 1/4 inch from the full throttle stop under WOT, so I lenghtened one of the upper arms after I figured out where it was not pushing enough at. Low and behold, it shifts much more like it should. *Normal* acceleration gives non-thunking shifts. So strange. Amazing they actually designed all this to work together. Nobody could build a car mass production like this today if they had too.

It's all related..

Wolf you hit the nail on the head! My world of vacum revolves around the EGR and the UFO valve under the airfilter that draws/holds 50" that you need the hands of a 2 year old to get access to.(RANT) The colored orfices -another story.
And when I finally get everything dialed in correctly there is smooth sailing for a month or so - and then mysteriously it goes out of sync
