While I don't like to pay more for fuel, is it really that expensive in relative terms?

Wow, $2.65 must sting nicely while filling up. Is it just in one area or what? I can't imagine our prices going up that much here. At least if the price of gas went up that high for a little while then the number of gas hogs (SUVs) on the road would surely diminsh.

Not unless your wages are going up at the same rate.

Just filled her up at $2.25, higher than premium un-leaded. What gives?

If diesel ever rose to $2.00 + a gallon here, I may decide to increase cardiovascular spasmodic activity. Either that, or look into biodiesel. Probably the latter.:p

Yeah, you could push your car for that.

local Chevron was $2.25 two weeks ago, went to $2.35 last Saturday and went to $2.39 last night...cheapest local source I know of is $2.31...in both stations regular gas costs less

Yes, but what about premium?
Around here (Bethlehem PA area) diesel is about even with regular, or a few cents higher.
Diesel around $1.719, unleaded 1.699, premium around 1.839.
NJ prices for diesel used to be about 12 cents lower than ours.
Haven't been to NJ lately tho so I don't know.

could the stations be artificially increasing the price of diesel inorder to keep the cost of gasoline down? the going price in Chico, Ca is $2.15 and one station with the only diesel for miles around is at $2.45. Premium gas is $2.35 unleaded $2.05
will

Because of the kooky laws in CA regarding both the restricted sources of crude for fuel refining and the low emissions-biased blending of fuel, there is less raw material available to refine fuels for CA than is the case in other states. RIght now it is so profitable to make gasoline that the limited refining capacity for making fuel from crude is biased toward gasoline production, which has created a supply problem for diesel. That is the explanation I've been given for why a fuel such as diesel, which takes less work and $$$ to refine than gasoline, now costs as much as $1/gallon more at the pump than it did eight or nine months ago.
