Help request: Steering input shaft coupling removal
Hi,
I am in the process of replacing my steering box. The one problem that I am encountering is that of getting the steering coupler off of the input shaft and slid up the shaft on the steering wheel end. The manual claims that this is the way to do it, but I am not seeing how. Any suggestions or help would be really great. Thanks, JMH |
If you want to take out the steering gear box, you can loosen the steering coupler at the gear box end. Remove the steering linkage and three frame bolts and wiggle the gear box out of the coupler.

But thats a 2 person job... One person to stay underneath and support the box so it doesnt fall (and thus wiggle it out from the coupler), and another to remove the bolts from the frame. And a similar job to install it back.
I'm a one man show... And the service manual claims that the coupler should slide up the corrugated steering shaft... Thanks, JMH |
get a buddy to help for a few minutes....my dad held the box from below, and i unbolted it....took about three minutes. dropped right away and to the heap pile.
