I have flaring in my 83 300D transmission, so I thought I would go through the DIY on adjusting the transmission. The first thing is says is to check the vacuum at the tee to the power steering booster and the vacuum pump. Coming off of the tee I have to vacuum lines. When I leave the tee connected to the injection pump connected my vacuum varies between 15 and 21. I have been able to determine by plugging this line that my vacuum pump is OK. The vacuum pump is putting out a solid 21 in of vacuum. By plugging and unplugging lines I have been able to trace the erratic vacuum to the Injection Pump vacuum valve.
I am confused though. Coming off of this valve is linkage that goes to the Shutoff lever. I checked the shutoff valve and the valve will shut the engine off at about 6 in of vacuum. The strange thing is that I never see the red off linkage ever move. I have read where I should see the Red off linkage move when I apply vacuum. That’s not happening, but I’m not having any shutoff problems. The red off linkage will shut the engine off, which I see connected to the injection pump valve which is supposed to control the transmission modulator. What am I not seeing. I have read until my head hurts and I still have not come across exactly the injection vacuum valve has to do with the shutoff valve.
Anybody know what's going on or do I have it all wrong? I have attached a picture of the valve that I believe is causing the problem. It is the valve below the little green filter. At least that what I think the little green thing is.
