SD Wipers
This is for a 1983 300SD with 230K miles.
While i was driving in the rain on an interstate a few days ago, the wipers stop working in mid-cycle. It was a lot of fun slowing down to 60 mph to make sure the wipers are not working and then moving to the slow lane and making my way to the next exit. Anyway, the fuse is alright, and I changed it just to make sure. The wiper motor seems to be buzzing too, but the wipers are not moving. It looks like something, some piece of hardware broke. Anyone have any insights as to whether its a DIY (for a novice) fix? The local mechanic kind of blurted that its a PITA (maybe setting himself up for a ton of extra labor charges). Any recommendations on how I should proceed? |

pull the wiper arms
#1. Remove the wiper arms.
#2. Remove the Black plastic bezel. #3. Turn on wipers, keep fingers out, danger of cut, pinch or amputation. #4. Turn off the wipers. #5. Reach in and check for broken linkage. #6. Remove the wiper motor. This is as far as I can go, hope it helps. R&R of the motor takes me 35 minutes with paper work.
